Director of Music: Peter Barrett GBSM (Hons), PGCE, L.Mus LCM, ABSM, A.Mus LCM
After studying at the Birmingham Conservatoire (formerly Birmingham School of Music) where he graduated with honours and distinctions, Peter completed his postgraduate studies at the University of Reading. He gained his first diploma in music through the London College of Music at the age of 17. His first composition was published by EMI when he was 14 years old.
In recent years, Peter has written a series of choral and orchestral pieces especially for local school children to perform at their annual carol services at Canterbury Cathedral. His compositions are regularly performed in scandinavian countries and heard mainly on Norwegian and Danish radio stations. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Peter was involved as a songwriter with the Swedish pop group Troll whose single and album Jimmy Dean reached number one in Sweden and Finland and made the top ten in other European countries.
With over 25 years' teaching experience including working as a Head of Music in several Kent secondary schools, part-time music teacher at Kent Music School and Canterbury Christ Church University, musician, composer, conductor and arranger, Peter created ALL MUSIC (Whitstable) to bring music education to a wider range of people.
At ALL MUSIC (Whitstable), we pride ourselves in being music specialists and tutors with a passion and enthusiasm about all aspects of music.
Based in the coastal town of Whitstable, we are conveniently situated for pupils travelling from Canterbury, Herne Bay, Faversham and north-east Kent.
We cater for all styles and levels, whether as a hobby or for serious study leading to Further Education. But at any level we endeavour to make learning music a joyful experience.
Our staff are qualified and experienced to teach pupils of all ages, from young children to the more mature adult. Staff are CRB checked and Licensed by Kent County Council and Medway Council to teach music in all schools throughout the county.
We offer a range of styles including classical, jazz, blues, pop and rock.
We prepare pupils for exams that are best suited to the pupil's aptitude.
Home visits can be arranged around the Whitstable area. This has proved popular with parents who have a busy lifestyle!
